Friends,
I am deeply grateful for the incredible support you gave to our campaign for City Council. While the final outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, we came close to achieving our goal. I am profoundly thankful for the journey we embarked on together and the opportunity to connect with so many passionate and engaged members of our community.
Your contributions—whether through financial support, knocking on doors, making phone calls, hosting events, talking with neighbors, putting up lawn signs, sharing ideas, personally endorsing, or offering friendship and moral support—meant the world to me.
Together, we ran a campaign rooted in honesty, values, and community, full of hope for our collective future, driven by a vision of a better Culver City.
We championed:
- Calling people in, rather than calling people out: Fostering understanding and building bridges through dialogue rather than division.
- Supporting local businesses: We recognized the vital role small businesses play in our local economy and community, and emphasized listening to their concerns and providing meaningful solutions to ensure they thrive.
- Protecting the environment: Tackling the climate crisis with a commitment to sustainability and resilience, ensuring our community is prepared for the future while preserving the beauty of our natural spaces.
- Standing with workers and honoring union values: As a proud fourth-generation union member, and with the support of the Los Angeles Federation of Labor and other unions, we stood for fair wages, safe working conditions, and job security, while upholding the dignity of work.
- Fostering the arts and creative economy: Advocating for the transformative power of the arts in enriching lives, fueling economic growth, and building community. We focused on making Culver City a cultural hub that supports artists and the creative workforce.
- Expanding and improving parks and green spaces: Ensuring all neighborhoods have access to climate-resilient parks within walking distance, where families can gather, children can play, and everyone can experience the peace and joy that nature provides.
- Prioritizing safe and accessible streets: Creating safe, accessible, well-marked, and well-lit streets, crosswalks, alleys, and sidewalks for all people in Culver City, regardless of their abilities or their chosen mode of travel. From children walking to school to those using mobility aids, we focused on fostering a more inclusive and navigable community.
- Advancing public safety: Backed by endorsements from Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Culver City Firefighters Association, and our first responders, we stood for common-sense gun safety measures, transparency, and accountability. We worked to ensure our first responders have the resources they need to keep our community safe and healthy, while also fostering community trust.
- Advocating for government transparency: We introduced the need for a lobby registry to shine a light on those seeking to influence our local government and ensure ethical and open decision-making processes. By establishing a lobby registry, we can ensure that the voices of residents remain at the forefront of policymaking and that the interests of special interest groups do not outweigh the needs of our community.
- Supporting women and uplifting their voices: With the endorsement of the Heart of LA Democratic Club, the feminist democratic club that stands for supporting and uplifting women, we fought for policies that empower women and girls in our community, ensuring that their voices are heard, their safety ensured, and their opportunities for success expanded.
- Advocating for affordable housing and continuing programs for the unhoused: We called for the continuation of wraparound services for the unhoused and unsheltered, championed the construction of affordable housing that doesn’t displace existing residents, and prioritized accessibility to vital community resources. We sought to address the affordability challenges faced by young residents, so Culver City remains a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can thrive.
- Upholding our shared values: Reflected in the broad coalition of endorsements and supporters—including elected and appointed officials, past and present; organizations that advocate for animal rights, environmental protection, and the preservation of our parks; and a democracy where all voices, not just the loudest, are heard. This also includes community leaders, neighbors, the business community, arts groups, and neighborhood advocacy organizations—who are united in their commitment to building a more inclusive, sustainable, and thriving Culver City.
Your support brought these ideas (and more!) to life and demonstrated the power of shared commitment, fostering meaningful relationships, and driving action.
Thank you for believing in me, in each other, and in the potential of our community. I look forward to staying engaged as we continue building a brighter future together.
With all my gratitude,
Jeannine
